History & Social Sciences

Our Humanities and Social Sciences lessons have a historical and contemporary focus, from personal to global contexts, and consider opportunities and challenges for the future. HASS lessons create opportunities for critical questioning and responding, ethical decision making, effective communicating, research and data collection and data interpretation and analysis. The activities and discussions had within these lessons provide students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to develop a broad and informed understanding of the world in which we live and how people can participate as active and informed citizens in the 21st century. Our pre-primary to year 2 classes have a personal and local focus on geography and history; learning about personal and family histories, daily life in the past, features of natural and man-made places and the importance of local sites. Civics and Citizenship and Economics and Business are subjects that are included in the Year 3 to 6 curriculum, and explore roles, rights and responsibilities of people in the community, the Australian Government, consumer purchasing decisions and business. Excursions and incursions are often organised throughout the year to celebrate and consolidate the children’s learning in HASS.
